Last November Barcelona hosted the latest edition of the IBTM World event, which focused on many of the expected trends for the coming years. We would highlight the following:
• The rural and professional worlds will come closer thanks to new technology and business trends.
Many tourism based establishments in rural areas now have spaces and resources available for hosting various events, ranging from larger gatherings (both professional and family) to work outings and Team Building activities.
• Bleisure and the search for more rural destinations and unconventional locations.
The term Bleisure refers to a mixture of business and leisure - work trips with time set aside for other activities and enjoying and discovering the destination. One can find meeting rooms and spaces for people to gather everywhere, but over the coming years the search will focus on more distinctive and bucolic surroundings, rural tourism and places less busy than city centres, with an emphasis on ecological aspects and interaction with local communities. Destinations that offer more than the capacity of a room and the facilities necessary to stage a meeting. The participants at an event are now looking for authentic experiences, to enjoy activities beyond traditional tourist circuits, to meet local experts and become actively involved with the inhabitants of the place.
• Petit comité and open-air events.
COVID-19 has transformed the sector. The tendency now is to reduce the number of invitees wherever possible. Spaces have adapted in order to cater for smaller events, and those with the same number of participants are divided into separate sessions, or conducted via live streaming applications etc. These solutions can sometimes be beneficial for both the participants and the corresponding locations and destinations.
Good transport links, installations and a wide range of accommodation options make the Province of Castellón an ideal destination for MICE Tourism. Conferences and incentive trips, as well as various types of social and professional events, have transformed Castellón into a benchmark on the Mediterranean. Towns such as Castellón, Benicasim, Peñíscola and Oropesa, offer first class installations for conferences and a hotel industry providing accommodation for 25,000 guests at any one time.
As a result, we can conclude that this location is an ideal option for businesses and professional groups. With the added bonus of the chance to enjoy complementary activities, such as active tourism, sports and visits to wineries, companies specializing in the design of team building, motivation and leadership programs have a great opportunity to explore the market and prepare tailor-made solutions with the collaboration of our MICE Tourism experts.
The Peñíscola Congress Centre is run by the Institut Valencià de Cultura (IVC), a Valencia Regional Government public law organization. El Palau, located in one of the most beautiful enclaves of the Mediterranean, was inaugurated on the 20th December 2003. Its architects, Ignacio García Pedrosa and Ángela García de Paredes, created a unique building, with an asymmetric design, characterized by the large latticework entrance, providing shade, which leads to a hall decorated with handcrafted ceramics. Housing a hall with a capacity for 700 guests, the roof is a concrete structure, installed with state of the art acoustic insulation. The building also has an exhibition hall and three smaller rooms for conferences and conventions, with an upper and lower hall ranging between 450 and 650 m2 offering a versatile space with abundant natural light.
The Francesc Tàrrega Municipal Theatre was inaugurated on the 17th March 1994 and its main hall has a capacity for 424 people. It is one of the most dynamic cultural spaces in the town, programmed throughout the year, with a range of films, theatre, dance and music events as well as exhibitions etc. In addition to its main auditorium designed for stage productions and cinema, the Benicàssim Municipal Theatre also has a specific hall for exhibitions. The Town Council directly manages all its activities, although it can be hired for private use with municipal authorization.
The modernist Palacete building has been refurbished with halls and rooms designed for exhibitions, training and educational sessions and conferences. It is now equipped to host all types of events, courses and public occasions in a well-designed, versatile space with a large capacity in a choice location, opposite the seafront, on the Voramar Beach.
The work was completed with the prime objective of preserving the character of this building, which dates from 1943; but at the same time furnishing it with the space and resources necessary to transform it into a perfect location for a variety of uses.
